THE PROJECT WITH A TOTAL VALUE OF APPROX. 8M EURO IS THE LATEST GREEK ENDEAVOR IN OPTICAL GROUND TO SPACE COMMUNICATION

We’re delighted to share the latest news related to the National Satellite Space Project of the Hellenic Republic.

Raymetrics S.A. proudly announces the signing of the contract and the official initiation of the Obs2OGS project, implemented by the European Space Agency (ESA), with the KO meeting that took place on 22nd of January at the premises of the National Observatory of Athens in Penteli.

During this meeting we had the honor to host the Secretary General of Telecommunications & Post at the Ministry of Digital Governance Prof. Konstantinos Karantzalos and colleagues, representatives from the European Space Agency (ESA), the Director and President of the Board of Directors of the National Observatory of Athens Dr. Manolis Plionis, the Director of IAASARS & Director of Research of the Academy of Athens Dr. Spyros Basilakos and representatives from the Greek Observatories and Subcontracting companies.

The activity aims at upgrading three astronomical observatories to operate as optical ground stations (OGS) within the Hellenic quantum communication initiative, as well as other European and Greek optical communication opportunities. “The Obs2OGS consortium, a state-of-the-art initiative spearheaded by Raymetrics S.A. as the prime contractor, is composed of the 3 Greek Astronomical observatories: National Observatory of Athens (Chelmos Observatory on the Northern Peloponnese ), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – AUTH (Cholomontas Observatory near Thessaloniki) and the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation of Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) which manages Skinakas Observatory, the common research infrastructure of the Univ. of Crete and FORTH, and the reputable subcontracting companies Cailabs, NetForSpace, Xairos, ProjectSoft.
