Raymetrics has been in operation since 2002, making us probably the first atmospheric LIDAR company in the world. Back then, the only people using aerosol LIDARs were researchers. We therefore come from a background in LIDAR science - and to this day we maintain strong links with the academic community.

Over the last 16 years we have developed a range of highly customizable products suitable for academic uses, commercial uses (aviation, mining, heavy industry), and operational uses (meteorology, enviromental). Our LIDARs are located all over the world, with systems in the USA, India, China, Africa, Brazil, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, the UK and many more (see map). Over the years, the company has built up an extensive client list which includes such prestigious organizations as the Met Office (UK), European Space Agency (ESA), National Environment Agency (Singapore), Direccion Meteorologica de Chile, and the German Weather Service (DWD). The reason a small company based in Greece has been able to do all of this is because of the quality of our products. Raymetrics LIDARs are extraordinary because of our unusual approach to product development - we follow the science instead of the usual commercial trend of producing smaller-faster-cheaper equipment. Our aim is always to produce instruments with the power, functionality and accuracy demanded by academics, combined with the robustness and ease-of-use required by commercial clients. A Raymetrics LIDAR is the most powerful tool of its type on the market and, because of our dedication to LIDAR science, the most accurate.  

 

This aproach has led to Raymetrics becoming the foremost aerosol LIDAR company in the world, and a trusted brand among the LIDAR community and beyond.

 

Why Raymetrics?

 

  1. Experience: Raymetrics has been in the commercial LIDAR market longer than most other manufacturers, with backscatter LIDARs available commercially since 2002, Raman LIDARs since 2004 and 3D scanning LIDARs since 2008.

  2. Knowledge: Raymetrics has a background in LIDAR science, having helped to bring the technology from academia to the marketplace. Our close ties to the scientific community allow us to benefit from new developments, leading to designs which have continually evolved and improved.

  3. Partnerships: We have a strong association with the European LIDAR Network (EARLINET), ensuring quality and compatibility. Raymetrics has more LIDARs in this network than any other manufacturer. We are also an official Associated Partner of the Aerosols, Clouds, and Trace gases Research InfraStructure Network (ACTRIS) and its follow-up, ACTRIS II. This is a European Project aimed at integrating European ground-based stations equipped with advanced atmospheric probing instrumentation for aerosols, clouds, and short-lived gas phase species.

  4. Standards: Raymetrics LIDARs conform to all necessary standards and requirements. Aviation systems conform to ISO 28902-1:2012 Air Quality - Environmental Meteorology Part 1: Ground-based remote sensing of visual range by LIDAR. Eye-safe systems are according to the European Standard on Laser Safety EN 60825-1:2008. The company is certified as being in compliance with standard ISO 9001:2008 (support provided by CORALLIA). All Raymetrics LIDARs are built to EARLINET recommended standards for LIDAR design, including a purpose-built depolarization unit designed specifically for EARLINET’s +/-45 degree test for calibrating the depolarization constant, specialist tools for performing the Telecover Test for accurate alignment, etc.

  8. In-house Software and Hardware Development: All optical designs, mechanical designs and software are developed in-house, meaning that the company understands all elements of LIDAR function and integration. We build LIDARs and only LIDARs.

  9. Customization: Raymetrics LIDARs are designed to be modular. This allows users to adapt the specification to exactly their needs without incurring additional costs. It also allows for simple upgrades. 

  10. Transparency: Raymetrics has a policy of being open about the capabilities and limitations of its products. We provide the full specifications and original manufacturer names of all components. We advocate transparency because we only use high quality components. We do not provide "black boxes" with hidden specifications.
